Frequently Asked Questions

Cut with Purpose is a student-led summer lawn care campaign in Richmond, BC. Local students provide front and back lawn mowing services while raising funds for health care, building leadership skills, and supporting the community.

The name reflects both what we do and why we do it. We provide a one-time lawn mowing service, but each booking also supports youth development, community health, and drug prevention education. Our goal is to help reduce risks through awareness and early action — while delivering real value to the community.

The project is run by motivated students who want to combine meaningful work, community service, and social impact through lawn care.

You can book directly through the website using the "Book Now" button. It takes you to a secure Stripe checkout.

We operate on scheduled neighborhood service weeks. After booking, you'll be assigned to your area's upcoming service window and receive a confirmation email with the date.

We work within a neighborhood route, so we can't guarantee a specific arrival time. You'll receive a time window (morning or afternoon) with your confirmation email.

Contact us at cutwithpurpose@gmail.com and we'll work to fit you into the next rotation for your area.

After booking, we'll ask how you'd like your $50 divided across four recipients, in 10% increments:

  • Student — always receives a minimum of 60% ($30)
  • Campaign Costs — tools, fuel, safety equipment, and promotion
  • RDLA — the Responsible Drug Learning Association (drug prevention & education)
  • Richmond Hospital Foundation — addiction treatment and health care services

Two minimums apply: the student always receives at least 60%, and campaign costs always receive at least 10% (we receive no government or non-government funding). Students can also choose to donate a portion of their own share back if they'd like.

Cut with Purpose gives youth meaningful work experience, supports health care initiatives, raises awareness around drug misuse, and helps strengthen the local community.

The campaign benefits local students (who earn income and build skills), the Richmond Hospital Foundation, the Responsible Drug Learning Association, and the broader Richmond community.

Yes. Volunteer and involvement opportunities may be shared through the project's social media channels, and you can also email us directly to express interest.

Yes — Cut with Purpose grew out of Ruby Tang's Grade 12 Capstone Project at SLSS, which combined original artwork with drug prevention awareness and raised $800 through a GoFundMe campaign. Cut with Purpose is the next chapter: hands-on action to continue that mission.

No. We have no affiliation or formal connection to RDLA or the Richmond Hospital Foundation. We simply find that their work aligns closely with our values around drug prevention and recovery, and we want our campaign to support causes that matter to the community. If you have suggestions for other beneficiary partners we should consider directing resources toward, please let us know — we'd love to hear from you.
